This is an opportunity for a Junior Software Engineer to build real-world, cloud-native systems that support large-scale retail platforms. You will join an established engineering environment focused on backend development across order management, loyalty, vouchers, customer services, and operational tooling.
The role is 6-month contract based in Melbourne, offering hands-on exposure to modern C# and AWS serverless architecture. You will work alongside experienced engineers who are invested in mentoring and developing junior talent while delivering production-grade systems.
This role suits someone with a solid C# foundation, a genuine interest in backend engineering, and a desire to learn how complex retail systems connect through APIs, events, and cloud infrastructure.
This is: what you’ll do
- Build and enhance backend services using C# and .NET within a cloud-native environment
- Support and maintain AWS Lambda and API Gateway services
- Design and consume REST APIs with clean request and response validation
- Collaborate with senior engineers on solution design and implementation
- Write readable, well-tested code using modern development practices
- Investigate and resolve production issues using logs and metrics
- Contribute to documentation and operational runbooks
- Participate in code reviews and engineering discussions
- Learn retail domains including order management, loyalty, and voucher services
This is: what you’ll need
- Commercial or practical experience with C# and .NET (ASP.NET Core preferred)
- Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and HTTP fundamentals
- Basic knowledge of SQL and database concepts
- Interest or early experience with AWS serverless services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, or EventBridge
- Exposure to Git, pull requests, and CI/CD fundamentals
- A curious mindset with strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
